Scope note
Windows of large size, characteristic of Renaissance and later classicizing styles, divided by columns or piers resembling pilasters into three lights, the middle one of which is usually wider than the others and is often arched. Named for Veneto architect Andrea Palladio, or in reference to Sebastiano Serlio, who wrote an architectural treatise describing arches of ancient Rome.
